About the Artist
I am a landscape artist who uses a variety of mediums; a world-traveller and a painter of many years experience.
My choice of medium is usually that most suited to the subject matter and in this instance - Westcountry Rivers - that choice is water-based, versatile gouache.
This gives me the flexibility to capture the detail of water and the colour range and intensity to do the landscapes justice. I also use oils and oil pastels for river scenes where I want a freer style
My home has been the west of England for over thirty years. Here there is such a wealth of wonderful material; in particular seascapes and landscapes of many kinds. In this series I have selected rivers and waterways; the life force of them all. I have not discovered rivers recently; in other parts of the world they have often become the conduits to describe dramatic landscapes. I have painted the Nile, the Yangste and the Ganges, pack ice in Greenland and waterless deserts in the Yemen.
In painting this collection I am deeply indebted to the Westcountry Rivers Trust and the South Devon Rivers Association and their Members, who have all been most encouraging and helpful in so many ways.
